1975 – Vasily Ivanovich Timofeyev was a KGB agent in Thailand. Action in the Russian foreign intelligence service. Journalist in Bangkok 1975, retired in 1993. Nikolai Petrovich a KGB resident in Thailand. In 1975 in Bangkok. The Vietnam war had ended. The US had some military bases in Thailand after the war. The KGB were interested in these bases, Pentagon documents in Thailand and the KGB descriptions of the administration of US bases in Thailand. Jan 1991 – In an FBI undercover operation code named DRAGON CHASE, the FBI in New York seized 28 pounds of China white heroin and got indictments of 10 people in the US and Thailand. With the main suspect arrested in Bangkok for drug trafficking.

1994 – It was a Hezbollah cell in Thailand that in 1994 almost succeeded in driving a truck laden with explosives into the Israeli embassy in Bangkok.
17 March 1994 – Hezbollah terrorists tried to bomb the Israeli embassy in Bangkok Thailand. The attack failed because the terrorists got in a car accident and fled the scene. Authorities later found the c4 explosives in the car. Hezbollah has a long track record of plotting terrorist attacks in south east Asia. (The Australian 9 June 2003).

28 Nov 1998 – US embassy closes amid security alert. Bangkok Post.
1 Oct 1999 – Burmese embassy seizure. Burmese dissidents seized the Burmese embassy in Bangkok taking 89 people hostage including one US citizen.
15 Jan 2000 – Nawaf Alhazmi and Khalid Almidhar fly into Los Angeles from Bangkok Thailand. Both became suicide hijackers on 9/11.
9 Nov 2001 – The al-Qaeda network in Thailand from where two of the 9/11 hijackers were launched after a meeting in Malaysia in Jan 2000. (Inside al-Qaeda ©2002 R Gunaratna).
27 Oct 2004 – Thailand risks a Muslim uprising in the south after the deaths of about 80 Muslims in military custody. Most of the victims were suffocated several had broken necks when 1,300 people were stuffed into a vehicle for six hours. After Thai officials used wateer canon gunfire and tear gas to break up a protest. United Liberation Organisation PULO statement on website said a southern Thai Muslim seperatist group the 1980s.
27 Oct 2004 – The group PULO was involved in a violent campaign in the 1970s and 80s for an independent Muslim kingdom of Pattani between southern Thailand and northern Malaysia.
13 May 2005 – Three bombs exploded in Yala, Thailands Muslim south yesterday police said. At least 9 people were inured in a region where more than 600 people have died in 17 months of violence. The first bomb exploded near a train station in sonug khla province wounding 3 people. Later a second blast outside the home of the provincial chief judge in Yala province wounded five police officers. While a third bomb near Yala city hall wounded a woman. (ODT Reuters).
Late 2005 – The Thai government said Barisan revokisi nasional (BRN-C) militants one of the two key insurgent groups in southern Thailand had been trained in Indonesia. Those trained were called Runda Kumpalan Keuil RKK.
17 Aug 2005 – Suspected Islamic militants bombed a Buddhist temple in Nasathiurat, Thailand killing a security guard and wounding 8 others.
26 Aug 2005 – In Yala province suspected Islamic militants shot dead 2 Buddhist Thais. In Narathiwat province a Muslim deputy village headman was killed.
28 Aug 2005 – Suspected Islamist militants shot dead a schoolteacher in southern Thailand’s Yala city.
29 Aug 2005 – Islamic militants killed a volunteer security officer who was accompanying Buddhist monks in Thailands Yala province.
1 Sept 2005 – In Thailands Narathiwat province an explosion killed a police officer who was accompanying teachers to school, and in Yala province gunmen shot dead a Muslim religious teacher.
22 Sept 2005 – In Yala province an elephant caretaker and a Burmese migrant worker were shot dead.
23 Sept 2005 – In Narathiwat province a bomb killed two police officers. In Yala province a Buddhist man was shot dead and in Pattani province a Buddhist construction worker was shot dead.
30 Sept 2005 – In Pattani province Islamic militants shot dead a teenage Buddhist student.
5 Oct 2005 – In Yala province Islamic militants beheaded a villager.
14 Oct 2005 – In Pattani province a Buddhist farmer was beheaded.
15 Oct 2005 – In Pattani province Islamic militants killed a Buddhist monk and 2 boys then set fire to a Buddhist temple.
16 Oct 2005 – 17 suspects arrested in connection with the 16 Oct 2005 killing of a monk all claimed to be part of RKK who were trained in Bandung Indonesia.
19 Oct 2005 – In Narathiwat province Islamic militants shot dead a Muslim women whose husband was a member of a local village administration.
26 Oct 2005 – In attacks along the Thai Malay border Islamic militants killed 4 Thai villagers.
2 Jan 2006 – The group that had beheaded an army commando in early jan 2006 was trained by Islamic scholars who studied in Indonesia. Also 3 suspects in an ambush on a commando unit in Yala on 2 Jan 2006 said they had got guerrilla training from the RKK in Indonesia.
10 May 2006 – A motorcycle bomb exploded in Pattani town killing 2 female teachers, a soldier and wounding 16 including 4 soldiers and a police officer. Also the same day a fishing worker was shot and seriously wounded by a motorcycle gunman in Yarang district.
15 June 2006 – Authorities distributed to the RKK 74 bombings that rocked the three troubled provinces of southern Thailand for four days starting 15 June 2006.
15 June 2006 – At least 16 people were injured in the blasts that exploded as people headed to work in the 3 Muslim majority provinces of Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala.
15 June 2006 – Bombing campaign in southern Thailand over four days. 74 bombs were detonated including 50 on the first day.
1 Aug 2006 – Insurgents rocked southern Thailand with more than 100 bombing and arson attacks.
31 Aug 2006 – Coordinated attacks when insurgents targeted at least 20 commercial banks in Yala province. This caused many injuries and shit down banks for a while.

The homemade bombs triggered by mobile phone signals were placed in garbage bins at newspaper stands and near seats where customers went for service at banks in Yala province.

Some of the explosives were planted by women small devices. 22 of Yalas 30 bank branches more than 1,500 people have been killed in the insurgency since early 2004 in Yala Narathwat and Puttani provinces.
17 Sept 2006 – Bomb blasts killed 4 people in southern Thailand.
19 Sept 2006 – Coup rumours spread in Thailand. Thaksin declared a state of emergency in Bangkok. Rail track blast and arson rail bomb exploded in Narathiwatis Rusoh district one km from Rusoh railway station.
9 Nov 2006 – Four people shot dead in Thailand’s south.
9 Nov 2006 – 8 bomb blasts injure 9 people. 8 bombs exploded at car and motorcycle showrooms in southern Thailand.
9 Nov 2006 – A bomb explodes in Thai Chiang Mai a home made bomb was triggered at a school in northern province of Chiang Mai.
14 Nov 2006 – 30 people were injured in bomb attacks in southern Thailand. Three bomb blasts by a Muslim insurgency.
21 Nov 2006 – Moroccan authorities reported that a key aide to Ayman al-Zawalier recently travelled to Morocco using a Thai passport. He pretended to be an Asian antiques dealer. His object was to coordinate acivities of a number of terrorist groups in North Africa. Western oil companies operating in Algeria and Libya. Tourist sites in Tunisia and Morocco were all seen as targets. (Stratfor terror intel report 21 Nov 2006).
24 Nov 2006 – Seven killed in Thai Muslim south, 2 Muslim men in their 20s were shot dead in a drive by shooting in Yala. A 48 year old Buddhist teacher was killed ouytside his school in Pattani when militants riddiled his car with bullets. Bomb at market in southern Thailand killed and wounded 17. 4 soldiers among the wounded, a bomb hidden in a motorcycle and triggered by remote mobile device exploded at a market Sungai kolok a town on the border with Malaysia. Explosives found in Yala with 2 bomb simcards. Attack oin schools bombed a school in Narathiwat before setting it on fire.
27 Nov 2006 – Three soldiers were injured in bomb attacks in southern Thailand. While patrolling a rural road in southern Thailand’s border province of Pattani were inured when a bomb exploded with mobile phone early Monday morning.
4 Jan 2007 – New Year bombs killed 3 and wounded 38. Thai markets fell by more than 3% during 2007 trading as a result of the bombings. (VOA 1.34am 9645khz world news now Thailand.)
19 Feb 2007 – Thai PM Surayud Chulanont called an emergency security council meeting in the wake of a wave of about 30 bombings in 4 of Thailand’s southern provinces. Meanwhile 3 more bombs exploded in the Ru So district of southern Narathiwat province injuring at least 3 police officers. The latest bombs were remote triggered by a mobile signal cell phone.
